Ok, thanks for the insights. I see that idle speed is registering correct on the cluster gauge. That could be off, the variance is only +/-50 rpm. I may have to get my hands on a test tachometer.
I'm sure there's a TPS test in the manual, I'll take a look there.
Maybe it is rich but that doesn't make much sense to me. I've got a BMC air filter in it and open slip ons. I do know that the oxygen sensor was turned off in a flash so it could very well be throwing more fuel at idle than it needs. I wouldn't know at this point.
I'm thinking I'm heading for a tune since I've already started by flashing my ECU. Probably the best course is to throw a good exhaust on it, a PC V and then find a competent tuner.
Rich and lean is not always intuitive on an FI bike. I have tuned many bikes after install of exhaust and air filters that have been really rich at idle and cruise rpms. It is all in how the sensors respond to the changes and the response of the ECU to them.

Ok. Thanks for sharing your experience and expertise. I wish I lived nearer by. Finding a tuner up here in Maine is a challenge.
I know of a dyno and tuner. One. I'm going to talk to one of the long time mechanics there that I know and feel them out for their level of expertise. I've already started messing with a great running machine so it's the usual with me.
Got the valves adjusted this week ( Shop in Bozeman)
karen & i havent ridden together since june so we planned on riding over to Virginia City and see the vaudeville show/dinner, etc
got to town to gas up and it's leaking oil . GRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!
